Carleton provides email services for students, staff, and faculty, using the Microsoft 365 (M365) suite–formerly the Microsoft Office 365 suite. The M365 license is dependent on your status at the university, details below.
- Student Microsoft Licensing

1. Receiving Your License:
- Eligibility: Once an active student, you are eligible for an M365 license.
- Activation: Your M365 license will be automatically assigned.
- Installation: You can install M365 on up to five personal devices, instructions found here.
2. Using M365:
- Access: Log in to your M365 account using your Carleton University Cmail account and password via Office.com
- Features: Access to a suite of M365 applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and OneDrive.
3. License Termination:
- Upon graduation the M365 license is removed. This removes access to the M365 suite, Teams and OneDrive. To prevent loss of data, steps should be taken to retrieve or back up items stored in repositories like OneDrive and Teams.
- There will be no change to your Carleton email. Your @cmail.carleton.ca address will remain available for you to send and receive emails at outlook.office.com.

- Staff Microsoft Licensing

- Activation: Your M365 license will be automatically activated upon your hiring.
- Installation: You can install M365 on up to five personal devices, instructions found here.
2. Using M365:
- Access: Log in to your M365 account using your Carleton University MC1 credentials via Office.com
- Features: Access to a suite of M365 applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and OneDrive.
3. License Termination:
- Leaving the University: When your employment status ends with Carleton, the CU M365 license will be revoked and you will no longer have access to the software.

- Faculty Microsoft Licensing

1. Receiving Your License:
- Eligibility: As a newly hired faculty member, you are eligible for an M365 license.
- Activation: Your M365 license will be automatically activated upon your hiring.
- Installation: You can install M365 on up to five personal devices, instructions found here.
- Honorary Title: (Prof Emeritus/Adjunct) Access your M365 account with your @cunet.carleton.ca email address via Office.com, this does not include access to download the desktop applications.
2. Using M365:
- Access: Log in to your M365 account using your Carleton University MC1 credentials via Office.com
- Features: Access to a suite of M365 applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and OneDrive.
3. License Termination:
- Leaving the University: If you leave Carleton University, your Office 365 license will be revoked and you will no longer have access to the software.
- Contract Instructors: Upon the end of your teaching contract, the CU M365 software license will be adjusted. You will lose access to the desktop applications, however, you can continue to use the online cloud version of M365 by signing into Office.com with your @cunet.carleton.ca email address for 2 years.

- Retirement: Upon retirement, the CU M365 software license will be adjusted. You will lose access to the desktop applications, however, you can continue to use the online cloud version of M365 by signing into Office.com with your @cunet.carleton.ca email address, this includes access to data stored in OneDrive & Teams.
